PURPOSE

The purpose of the IDEAS committee is to identify important issues for Wayne County, frame those issues from the progressive viewpoint, educate ourselves and the community about those viewpoints and disseminate those viewpoint to the community.

ACTION PLAN

INFORM OURSELVES ABOUT THE ISSUES

We work with local elected democratic officials or other knowledgeable individuals to keep abreast of current and upcoming issues of concern to the Wayne County Progressive Network and local citizens.

How will we do this:

  1. Monitor Wayne County newspapers for info related to specified issues and/or Network submissions.
  2. Attend local government meetings whenever possible

FRAME THE ISSUES

We will frame issues in positive manner from a progressive viewpoint.

How will we do this?

  1. Develop position papers on relevant issues
  2. Use the language from George Lakoff’s book to begin to stay in step with national trends
  3. Work with candidates to develop and adopt consistent themes and language
  4. Advocate for progressive positions via all outlets

EDUCATE AND DISSEMINATE

We will organize education/information programs for the membership and the community about the issues and how government works so that they can be better informed and more effective in their political actions.

How will we do this?

  1. Develop columns and article addressing local issues for submission media and posted on our webpage.
  2. Maintain a public presence in Wayne County through dissemination of materials
  3. Speak to community groups about issues
  4. Maintain a public presence in Wayne County by participation in community events.
  5. Bring in speakers to speak to the club and/or community

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT 

We will serve as resource for all the action committees and general community

How will we do this?

  1. Maintain active list of “First Responders” who can attend to or address unexpected events
  2. Maintain library of IDEAS committee materials
  3. Identify experts about specific issues that can be used as a resource for the WCPN
